A Collage Studio:
Defining a perfect environment for creativity

There is nothing like a little bit of chaos to stir things up. Seeking order and finding form in the jumble is how I find my form. I’m primarily a studio artist in collage media, and my work process always involves organizing, and reorganizing the studio workspace.

My place is always cluttered. I’m a layerist.  I always have to clean and reorganize. The floor is usually littered with scraps. My worktable is always layered with papers. The sensual aspect of this is what moves me forward and inspires me.

Occasionally I’m asked if I’ve ever been stuck and unable to start a work or if I ever run out of ideas for a new collage.

I can honestly say that’s never happened! There is too much media lying around. I get ideas when I look at my papers. A mess is actually a good thing. If I discover a wonderful paper while reorganizing the clutter, I’ll stop a work in progress and start planning a new work. A paper always seems to trigger an idea. I am in love with paper. It’s exciting, it’s challenging, and it’s motivating.
