In July, 2016, I led a workshop for the Faculty and Student Showcase at the Pelham Art Center, Pelham, NY(it closed August 10, 2016). I teach Create with Collage at the Center. My work, seen here, is titled Blue and White Triangles (24×32 inches). It’s painted paper collage on 2 wood panels, called a diptych and was hung near works by many of my collage students. At the start of the reception, I got a chance to talk to visitors about my student’s collages and invited them to join the multi-age workshop that evening that was free to the public and open to all ages. Participants included youngsters and their parents, teens and adults. We provided magazines and all necessary papers, glue sticks, and scissors. I talked about how to cut and glue papers, and to create a work that told a personal story. It was amazing.
This image shows 3 teens holding up their collages for the photographer.
This image shows children, parents and teens at the workshop. Notice that there were many worktables set up and a lot of space to work.
I’ve led recent hands-on collage workshops at the Pelham Art Center and at my exhibition receptions at the Blue Door Gallery in Yonkers and my solo Micro Gallery exhibition at Media Loft. I taught high school students at a multi-session workshop at the Morris Museum and also taught an all-day collage workshop for art teacher accreditation. Most satisfying, I’ve designed collage workshops for museum exhibitions at the Newark Museum.
