Take a class with an artist who’s taught collage for more than 30 years
Winter 2017: 7 classes
Mondays: 7:00-9:30 pm
January 9– March 6 (no class Jan 16 and Feb 20)
My collage classes at the Pelham Art Center offer each student a meaningful experience that is individualized, positive and creative. I offer tips and instruction on collage technique and how to get it all together. There are 7 classes in the winter term and 7 projects – a new project each week inspired by a famous artist.
We look at sample works of art and discuss how the image can be interpreted as a collage. Some master artists we discuss include Henri Matisse, Romare Bearden and Stuart Davis. The goal is not to copy but to understand why a work of art is successful in terms of colors, shapes, pattern and design. We learn to see.
All classes include demonstration, discussion and gentle critique. We work with everyday materials as well as fine art papers and contemporary magazine papers. During each class, we explore collage technique and new media. Success is an important goal. The class experience is supportive and the working space is ample.
